Fairlane Acres: Projects, Parts, and Promises
Fairlane Club
America member Dennis McGee from Annapolis, Maryland recently visited Fairlane Acres,
which is a local Parts Department that specializes in 1962-69 Fairlanes. The Parts Department
has about 120 Fairlanes, with 15-20 of them in restorable condition and being
offered for sale.
About half of the restorable Fairlanes are outside in the open
with the rest huddled under the shelter of a pole shed. Most of the restorable
cars have 289-2v V-8s with either an automatic transmission or a 3-speed manual
on the column. A couple of 6-cylinder cars also are available.
The restorable cars range in quality from "crème
puff" to "a real labor of love is needed" and generally exhibit
the normal wear-and-tear (i.e. faded paint, minor dings, missing trim, etc.) you
find on any daily driver that is 35-40 years old. For Fairlane lovers, this
cache of restorable cars is a real treasure trove.
The rest of the fleet at Fairlane Acres consists of parts cars
that range in condition from "lots of good stuff left" to "one
step from the crusher." While most of the drive trains are gone from the
parts-cars, a few are intact for both 289/302cid V-8s and 200cid 6-cylinders.
There is at least one 428-4v (in a Galaxie) and one 351W-4v (in a Ranchero)
still in the yard.
Dennis sent along these photos from Fairlane Acres for FCA
members -- and others -- to enjoy and to select their next Fairlane project.
If you would like more information on a particular car, Dennis
can be reached at (410) 757-1998 and he will put you in contact with the owner.

1967 "500" 4-door sedan,
289-2v/3-speed manual, 128K miles, last tagged in 1993 in
Pennsylvania. It appears to be very solid and an easy
restoration. Made in Lorain, Ohio, June 8, 1967 |

1967 "500" 4-door sedan with
289-2v/auto with 135K miles made in Lorain, Ohio, with very
attractive Sauterne Gold color. Has some Bondo, missing tail

1967 GT 2-door hardtop with 90K miles. This
car is missing its engine, transmission and interior and would
be a challenge to any restorer. The hood has the 390cid
"power domes" along with retaining pins. On the other
hand, the glass is good and it IS red! |

1965 2-door sedan built in Kansas City with
a 289-2v and 3-on-the-tree. This 90K sedan would be a good
project for a beginner. |

|
This 1966 Atlanta-built 289-2v 2-door
hardtop is just about ready for the crusher having been pretty
well stripped and now rusting out. It can offer a few more
pieces of glass and some minor trim before it goes. |

|
The body on this 1962 2-door hardtop is no
pretty sight, but it does have the bucket seats and an intact
console, which is in very good shape, as well as its original
260cid engine and good glass. |
